Youth Program

Children and Teen Classes (6 – 18 years old)

Aikido training for the youth focuses on developing their balance; coordination; use of the center; sense of awareness; connection and energy which can be incorporated into other sports or activities.  It emphasizes courtesy, respect, responsibility, work ethics, cooperation, leadership, and having fun!  Aikido training builds confidence and empowers students to become leaders.  It also teaches them basic self-defense techniques.

Children learn simplified Aikido techniques, containing the basic science and foundations of adult testing techniques.

Adult Classes

Classes are open to adult students from beginner to advanced levels (Kyu and Dan), as well as to advanced teens. Explanations, techniques and Aikido teachings are targeted towards adults.

Dojo Etiquette

The observance of etiquette in Aikido is essential to training. It draws us towards a cultural understanding of Japan and the principles of Japanese teaching methodology. For the most part, it is a system of respect and courtesy.

  • Respect the instructor, students and place of training.
  • Quietly and attentively follow the teacher’s instructions.
  • Observe personal hygiene, and keep your uniform clean.
  • Keep your finger and toe nails short and clean to prevent injuries.
  • Respect all weapons and treat bokkens and tantos as if they are live blades.
  • Never handle other people’s weapons without permission.
  • Never walk on the Tatami in outdoor shoes or slippers.
  • Try at all times to be on the Tatami before the class starts. In case you’re late quietly bow in.
  • Practice quietly; keep talking to a minimum.
  • Attend the quiet sitting position when the Sensei is giving further instruction.
  • Never try to hurt anyone you practice with. Aikido is not an art of competition. It is an art of personal achievement. Do not compare yourself to others.
  • No training under the influence of drugs or alcohol. You will be asked to leave the premises.
