What is Aikido?

  • A traditional Japanese martial art
  • A combination of Jujitsu, Judo, and Kendo
  • Includes the use of wooden sword (katana), stick (jo), and knife (tanto) techniques
  • Teaches to blend in with an attack and to redirect it
  • Teaches self-defense from attacks and conflict resolution
  • Train with strikes & grabs and uses locks, holds, throws, and pinning techniques
  • Teaches to fall, roll and stand back up
  • Teaches to use one’s center and find balance
